My style falls under the umbrella of myofascial work, which simply refers to muscles and fascia. A word often associated with this style is "melting," creating space for tissue to experience change. The pace tends to be slow and aims to provide effective relief through comfort.
Techniques like rocking and passive stretching are natural allies in this approach, as are gentle neuromuscular techniques. Myofascial work can still impact deep muscular structures, and we may also incorporate trigger point therapy and other modalities as our work together progresses.
Prior to your first session
You’ll receive a welcome email and an intake form about your health history when you make your initial appointment. If possible, please fill out this form prior to the day of your session, or we will take some time at the start of the session to go through it. After your first session, you'll only get a nudge to update this form once a year. This form also details my business's and general massage therapy policies.
Once you arrive
I welcome you to arrive 5 to 10 minutes early. We’ll go back to the treatment room and discuss your goals, health history, and any prior experience with massage, as well as any questions you have. Then, I will step out of the room to wash up, and you will disrobe to your level of comfort.
What do I take off? What do I keep on?
Some people prefer to keep all their clothes on (except outerwear shoes). While this may change the techniques used, it does not prevent massage therapy’s effectiveness – and if you’re more comfortable this way, we’re already on our way to a good session! If you do choose to disrobe partially or fully, I’ll direct you to get between the two sheets on the table. Before I step back in, I’ll knock to make sure you are ready.
During the session
I’ll follow your lead on how much you prefer to chat or not. I may check in briefly about how you’re feeling, and I invite you to ask questions, share embodied experience, and above all, let me know if a technique or something else is not working for you.
After the session
Once our time has finished, I’ll let you know and step out of the room for you to redress, if needed, and then we’ll reconvene to talk about how the session felt for you and to check out. I invite feedback – and understand massage brain! I’m available by e-mail after your session as well for any comments or questions that may come up.
While I do not have a power lift table, I am happy to set the table lower or higher for clients’ ease in transferring to the table. A medical step with a high handle is available for extra balance getting onto and off of the table. Table width extenders are also available when booking. Our licensure disallows helping clients onto or off of the table. Please reach out to discuss any other accommodations needed.
